Read: Isaiah 61:10; Jude 1:24-25
How many times have I said these words? “That simply isn't right. How can someone go free because of a technicality? How can someone lie, causing a person to be imprisoned for decades?”
Injustice. It seems to be everywhere. Judges who are corrupt while good men are mocked. The world system often is upside down, but wait! There is something even more unbelievable. Those who are truly guilty are declared to be holy and without sin. What? Who are these guilty ones who are known to be guilty but are declared to be wholly righteous, 2 Corinthians 5:21? How can someone whose sins are fully known be blameless. Not merely forgiven but clothed in righteousness, Isaiah 61:10? Again, who are these people whose record of sin have been expunged?
It is us! Those who have seen our total inability to save ourselves and have come to rely wholly upon the Righteous One Jesus, for salvation. Imagine it! We will be able to stand before the Judge/Savior with great joy. We will complete our journey because we are guarded and kept safe by the Lord, Jude 1:24-25; 1 Peter 1:3-5.
These song lyrics vividly paint the picture of the wonder of God's love. Hearing them this week was the catalyst for this devotion.
MERCY WALKED IN
"I stood in the court room the judge turn my way, It looks like you're guilty now what do you say, I spoke up your honor I have no defense, But that's when mercy walked in.
Mercy walked in and pleaded my case, Called to the stand God's saving grace,
The blood was presented that covered my sin Forgiven when mercy walked in.
I stood there and wondered how could this be, That someone so guilty had just been set free, My chains were broken I felt born again, The moment that mercy walked in.
Mercy walked in and pleaded my case, Called to the stand God's saving grace,
The blood was presented that covered my sin, Forgiven when mercy walked in.
The blood was presented that covered my sin, forgiven when mercy walked in."
What can we do to thank God for His incredible Gift? We can do as the shepherds did, Luke 2:16-17. We can do as the apostles did. We can do what the Samaritan woman did, John 4:27-29. We can do what Jesus said to do, Matthew 28:18-20.
